About MPQ

Biography

Straight from Skopje, Macedonia, Music Progressive Quartet (MPQ) is comprised of four young, conservatory-trained, world class professional classical musicians who play with the National Macedonian Philharmonic orchestra and guest with countless other groups and at numerous festivals in the Balkans and beyond. In MPQ, they break out to another genre, presenting a fresh jazz take on traditional folk songs of Macedonia. They have charmed audiences worldwide with their total mastery of their instruments, their innovative and witty arrangements, and their warm and engaging stage manner. The members of MPQ are Vladimir Lazarevski on oboe, Vladimir Krstev on violin, Marko Videnovic on viola and as composer, and Paskal Krapovski on cello.

Performance history

The quartet has performed at festivals such as "Blues and Jazz Rallye" in Luxemburg, "Balkan music night" in Concord, Massachusetts, "Geza Balazs Gari Jazz festival" in Serbia, "Days of the Slavic literacy and culture" in Moscow, Russia, "Ensemble studio theatre" in NYC, "Czech culture in center" in Sofia, Bulgaria, "Bitfest", "Modoars" and "Skopje summer fest" in Macedonia. MPQ has been highlighted on famous international jazz stages such as Porgy & Bess in Vienna, Austria, DROM in NYC, Lilypad in Boston, Lucid in Seattle, Subterranean Arthouse in San Francisco and Cellar Jazz in Vancouver, Canada.

Marko Videnovic

Composer and Viola
Marko Videnovic holds BA degree in viola major from the University “Kiril and Metodij” - Faculty of music in Skopje. He is laureate of few national awards for chamber music competition and has attended master classes with Professors: Bjorn Sjorgen, Ivo van Der Verf, Petar Ivanovic, String Quartet “Medici” and ectr. As a musician, Marko has performed in many chamber and symphonic orchestras in Macedonia and abroad as: “Alea” contemporary music ensemble, Bitola chamber orchestra, Music youth orchestra of Macedonia, Youth orchestra of south-east Europe, Quartet of the Belgrade opera, Symphonic orchestra “Stanislav Binichki – Belgrade”, FMU soloist orchestra with who he also performed as soloist, and many others. At the moment, Mr. Videnovik is active member of quartet “Music progressive” as viola player, composer and arranger of the music and is also member of the string quartet “Brevis”. He holds full time position as leader of the viola section at the National Macedonian Philharmonic orchestra.

Vladimir Lazarevski

Oboe
Vladimir Lazarevski holds D.M.A, MA and BA degree in performance from National music academy “Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 2004, Vladimir won scholarship from the music school "Longy" in Boston, USA, where he gain graduate performance diploma for studying in the classes of Prof. Wayne Rapier and Prof. Mark McEwen, leading oboists of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Currently, Vladimir holds full-time Principal oboe position at the National Macedonian Philharmonic, as well as part time position as Associate Professor at University of Goce Delcev – Music academy in Stip, Macedonia, teaching oboe and chamber music. Vladimir has many solo and chamber music performances internationally and domestically, as well he has recorded two CD for oboe and piano. Besides the engagement with Music Progressive quartet, Vladimir is a actively involved in the ensemble for modern music “Contempora” and F.A.M.E.S orchestra of the Macedonian Radio and television.

Vladimir Krstev

Violin
Vladimir Krstev holds BA and MA degree in violin performance from the University “Kiril and Metodij” - Faculty of music in Skopje. His music award portfolio is outnumbered. Most important, he won the Yamaha competition in 1998 – an award given to the best instrumentalist in his generation. He holds full time position as leader of second violin section in the National Macedonian Philharmonic orchestra and working part time as Associate Professor at University of Goce Delcev - Faculty of Music in Stip, Macedonia, teaching violin and string pedagogy. Krstev proves his musicianship as well as member of Kiril Dzajkovski’s Bend, making unforgettable performances all over Europe, delighting audiences where ever they perform with the new and original modern-folk electronic sound. He is also appearing as guest musician on several CD’s and movie soundtracks.

Paskal Krapovski

Violoncello
Paskal Krapovski holds BA and MA degree in performance studying with Anatoli Krstev at National music academy “Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia, Bulgaria. He attended master classes with Mineo Hayashy, Milosh Mleinik, Anatoli Krstev and Alban Gerhardt. In March 2001 he played at the festival “Music-Improvisation- Theatre“in Bern, Switzerland. He was also Soloist with the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, The Chamber Orchestra of the Macedonian Philharmonic, Skopje Summer Festival, Ohrid Summer Festival, the “Days of Macedonian Music” manifestation in Macedoniain Istanbul and Ancara, Turkey. The summer 2005 and 2006, he was invited by the European Association of Musician to take a part in the international orchestra project in Medea, Italy. He holds full time position as principal cellist in the National Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, the chamber orchestra of the Macedonian Philharmonic and ensemble “Contempora”. Since 2009, Paskal is involved as Associate Professor at University of GoceDelcev - Faculty of Music in Stip, Macedonia, teaching violoncello. From 2016, He also teaches violoncello major at the Facuty of Music, University St. Kiril and metodij in Skopje.
